In the summer of 1960, a chilling mystery was born in the arid Arizona desert. A young girl's body was found, her identity a mystery that perplexed investigators for decades. She was sadly given the nickname 'Little Miss Nobody', and her case grew cold over the years.
Meanwhile, in Alamogordo, New Mexico, four hundred miles away, a horrific incident had occurred. Four-year-old Sharon Lee Gallegos was reportedly kidnapped right outside her grandmother's home on July 21, 1960. Witnesses described a dark green sedan, occupied by two adults and a freckled boy. A mysterious woman had also been asking around about Gallegos in the local area.
Though the authorities in Arizona were aware of Gallegos' abduction, they initially ruled out a connection. They estimated 'Little Miss Nobody' to be about seven years old, not four, and the substantial distance between the two locations further deepened their doubts.
The unidentified child's body remained unclaimed. Moved by her tragic fate, the local community raised funds for her burial in a Prescott, Arizona cemetery. Over 70 people attended her funeral, marking her grave with a poignant white marker that read, "Little Miss Nobody, Blessed are the pure in heart, St. Matthew 5:8, 1960".
However, the mystery of her identity endured, periodically revisited and speculated over the years. In 2018, a glimmer of hope emerged. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office released a sketch, drawn from a DNA profile obtained by exhuming her body and conducting DNA tests at the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification.
Despite this, the DNA technology available in 2018 fell short of conclusively linking the unidentified body to Gallegos' surviving family members, who had submitted their own DNA samples for comparison.
However, the persistent endeavors for truth finally bore fruit in 2021. Othram, a Texas-based forensic genealogy lab, approached the authorities, offering to help solve this enduring mystery. Backed by crowdfunding, their advanced testing methods finally confirmed what had been speculated for over six decades - 'Little Miss Nobody' was Sharon Lee Gallegos. This revelation came to light in late February 2022, marking a significant closure in one of Arizona's most enduring cold cases.
Othram's advanced technology has proven invaluable in resolving several cold cases, shedding light on long-standing mysteries and bringing much-needed answers to grieving families and investigators
